Art for the Park: 2nd Annual Skateboard Art Auction Opens this Friday Night
The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative is holding its 2nd Annual Skateboard Art Display and Auction at Glas, the Green Coffeehouse, on Sturgeon Bay’s west side from April 5 through April 28. The art opening will take place this Friday night from 7 – 10 pm with music, beverages and food. Over 30 painted, wooden skateboard decks will be on display and will feature the work of professional artists, students in the Sturgeon Bay High School’s Advanced Placement Art Class, Southern Door’s 5th and 6th Grade Art Class and several talented young artists from Gibraltar Schools. Each opening bidder will receive a gift and “Buy It Now” incentives will be available for the duration of the auction. All proceeds from sales of the art will help fund the construction of a public skatepark on the west side of SturgeonBay. In addition to the decks at Glas, decks will be displayed at Czarnuska Soup Bar in Ephraim and Southern Door Middle School throughout the month of April.
A silent auction will be held for the skateboard creations. Bids may be made at the sites listed above for the duration of the show and on the Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative facebook page. The Auction Countdown will take place on Sunday, April 28 from 11 am – 2 pm with bidding ending at 1 pm.
The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative (SBSI) is a group of skaters, parents and businesses that have teamed up with the SturgeonBayPark and Recreation Department to create a safe public place for skateboarders of all levels to recreate. BMX bikes will be welcomed at the skatepark as well. SBSI is a fund of the Door County Community Foundation. To date, the group has raised over $220,000 in cash, pledges and donated services toward their $405,000 goal.
