Midsummer's Music Festival Holiday Concert Series Brings Gaudete Brass Quintet to Door County, Dec 12-14
The Gaudete Brass Quintet was formed in 2004 with the intention of promoting a greater appreciation of brass chamber music. For almost a decade, they have accomplished this by means of teaching and performing both classical and contemporary compositions for brass. All across the USA, their concerts and workshops have infused audiences with a newfound awareness of the intimate art of brass arrangements. Midsummer's Music Festival brings them to Door County for their premier performances here at three different venues from December 12 -14.
Each of the Holiday Concerts will include readings by Door County pastors including Kerry Krauss from the Sister Bay Moravian Church, Joe Mitchell from the United Methodist Churches and Sue Gunderson from Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Gaudete Brass Quintet will not only perform three concerts but in addition, will conduct master classes with Gibraltar's high school and middle school band students.
The Midsummer's Music Festival Winter Concert Series highlights the Gaudete Brass Quintet on Saturday, December 14 at the Max Supper Club in Baileys Harbor with a Holiday Dinner at 5:30 pm and Concert at 7 pm. Maxwelton Braes Lodge is offering special room rates for the weekend and a silent auction will take place at intermission. Advanced reservations for the dinner and concert are required at $60 per person. Concert-only tickets are available at $25 for adults and $10 for students. Children under 17 are welcome to attend at no charge.
On Thursday, December 12 the Gaudete Brass Quintet will perform at the Sister Bay Moravian Church at 7 pm, where good will offerings for attendance will be accepted. The Gaudete Brass Quintet is comprised of trumpeters Bill Baxtresser and Ryan Berndt, matched with Julia Filso on horn, Paul Von Hoff on trombone and Scott Tegge playing the tuba. Together they have recorded three notable albums: Brass Outings, winner of the 2006 CDBaby Editors' Choice award; Conversations in Time with organist R. Benjamin Dobey in 2011; and most recently, Chicago Moves, nominated in four categories of the 56th annual Grammy Awards and produced by Grammy-winner Judith Sherman.
