Caring for Persons with Dementia iCal

Sunday, April 27 2014 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Northern Door Health & WellnessMinistry continues its Community Health Information Programs with  the second in a series on Dementia  called “Caring for Persons with Dementia”to be held on Sunday, April 27, at 4:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Sister Bay.

Eighty percent of care to persons with dementia is provided at home.  Caregiving can feel overwhelming. Each new stage of disease progression may necessitate taking on more caregiving duties.  The Alzheimer’s Association states that on average, families receive services for five to eight years as they care for a loved one with dementia.

When you are caring for a person with dementia who is close to you, you will find your relationship changing over time.  You may sometimes find the behavior of the person with dementia confusing, difficult to deal with or irritating, leaving you feeling stressed, irritable or helpless.  Often when you are caring for someone with dementia, it is all too easy to ignore your own needs and forget that you matter too.

Come hear a panel of local experts who work with persons with dementia and their families.  The panel will consist of:

  • Christy Wisnewski, Ministry Memory Clinic Outreach Specialist,
  • Carrie Kostreva, Special Care Coordinator, Birchwood Dementia Unit and
  • Denise Misovec, Program Manager, N.E.W. Curative Rehabilitation, Open Door Adult Day Services.
