Forestville Mill Pond drawdown starting next week

The controversial drawdown of the Forestville Millpond is scheduled to start next week.  Property owners around the area were notified by letter this week reminding them that the action will begin on November 1.  The Door County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution earlier this year that ideally will improve water quality, compact the sentiment, as well as suppress invasive species and the carp that are in the millpond.  Door County Parks Superintendent Ben Nelson says one misconception out there is that there is no monitoring of the drawdown.

Nelson says a DNR specialist will be visiting the site weekly and the gradual drawdown will be completed within four to six weeks. The Friends of the Forestville Dam organization has voiced opposition to the drawdown, believing the dredging of the millpond would be a better solution.
