The Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce will again recognize people and organizations that have significantly impacted the community. The annual Beacon Awards will be presented in April, with the nomination period opening next Friday, March 1. Five categories will receive nominations. They are the Tower Business Award, the Lighthouse Volunteer Award, the Lantern Education Award, the Rising Star Award for a new company or member of note, and the Rose Improvement Recognition for a business that made notable improvements to their business.
The award winners will be recognized at a dinner banquet in April. The Beacon Awards date back over 25 years ago, when they were known as the BIE (Business, Industry, and Education) Awards.
