Door County looks into creating sober living facility

Putting your neighbors on the right track toward recovery is the goal of a sober living facility being explored by Door County officials. During Tuesday’s Door County Board meeting, supervisors will look to approve approximately $15,000 of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the first phase of a project that could help create a sober living facility. The county would use CORE Treatment Services, Inc. to complete the first phase, which includes a community assessment and a feasibility study to determine if, when, and how a sober living facility could be launched. Door County Health and Human Services Director Joe Krebsbach says launching a facility like this could help address other concerns in the area.

Laurie Chapman, a board member for the 115 Club in Sturgeon Bay that runs counseling services for those struggling with alcohol and drug abuse, says this is long overdue but applauds the county for taking steps in the right direction. CORE Treatment Services manages similar residences in Manitowoc, Waupaca, and Shawano counties. The Door County Board will also discuss its communication tower and radio upgrade project and restructuring of the behavioral health organizational chart when it meets Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Door County Government Center.
