The US Coast Guard is warning recreational ice users in and near the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, lower Green Bay, the entrance channel into Marinette and Menominee and the Fox River that ice breaking operations are currently underway in the waters of Green Bay.
Mark Gill of the Coast Guard says the ice breakers may make the ice nearby used by ice fishers and other recreational users unstable and dangerous.
Gill says as long as shipping season continues vessel traffic should be expected. Shipping season can run into the middle of January.
