A familiar phone scam is now taking aim at small businesses in the state. Kerry Spees of Wisconsin Public Service explains the latest twist.
Spees says no utility company will ever call you and demand immediate payment by wire transfer or debit card.
He says if you do get a call, try to find out as much as you can about the caller. Try to get a company name, phone number or where they want you to send the payment. Then give that information to police.
Spees says if you do think you may have an overdue payment with a utility provider, you should call them to sort out your situation.
