As you set up your new TV and laptop this week, don’t throw the old one in the dumpster. Electronics have been banned from Wisconsin landfills since 2010.
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Sturgeon Bay is the only DNR-approved drop off for old electronics in Door and Kewaunee counties.
Store Manager Leslie Boden says the charge for recycling depends on the item and the size.
Boden says you don’t need to erase the drives before dropping off a device, but just to be safe, some people do.
Boden says the devices are banned from landfills because they contain lead and other materials that can contaminate groundwater.
