Editorial Comment - Door County Y Hits A Home Run With New CEO

The Door County YMCA hit a home run with the selection of Tom Beerntsen as the new President and CEO. Beerntsen starts his new position Monday. Tom is the kind of guy that could have picked any Y in the country and been welcomed as CEO. Door County is fortunate to have him, along with his wife, Penny. She’s a noted speaker and advocate for restorative justice. Having someone of Penny’s stature and respect in criminal justice circles will benefit Door County as well.

The YMCA has the best brand of any organization in the county. No group bridges demographic gaps like the Y. The major accomplishment of Y leadership is bringing together into one community Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay and Northern Door.

The challenge our new President and CEO faces is to continue the impressive programs, community support and commitment to making financial assistance available so all have access to the Door County Y. With a track record of accomplishment, including the chairmanship of the national YMCA board of directors, Tom Beerntsen is the right choice for Door County.

That’s my opinion.  I’d like to hear yours.  I’m Roger Utnehmer.
