If you received an e-mailed utility bill for $500, $524 or $524.30 it’s a fake. Delete it and don’t click the link in the message.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says e-mailed utility bills from Energy Billing Service or Energy Billing System are the latest utility bill scam to hit the state.
Lisa Prunty of Wisconsin Public Service says they are well aware of this scam – and the way it preys on people who are already nervous about utility bills.
The e-mail includes a link to View Your Most Recent Bill – and that link is either going to be phishing for your bank information or sending you a virus or malware.
