The battle is on to restore funding to build additional Littoral Class Ships in Marinette for the US Navy.
US Senator Tammy Baldwin tells DoorCountyDailyNews.com that facility modifications and investments in equipment at Marinette Marine and other companies were made based on a 52-ship commitment.
Baldwin says if the original commitment is not carried through, investors may shy away from making improvements for future defense-related contracts.
In addition to Marinette Marine, more than 100 businesses in the state that were expecting to supply parts and services will be impacted.
The reduction in the number of ships was announced this week as part of an overall restructuring in the Defense Department.
