The bill authored by Representative Garey Bies of Sister Bay that would force those under a domestic abuse order to prove they turned their guns over to a legitimate third party is headed for a vote in the state Senate.
Current law requires those who are under an order of protection to turn over their weapons, but there is no mechanism set up to determine if they did. The bill was endorsed yesterday by the Senate’s public safety committee.
A bill that would require anyone whose weapons are seized to prove they are allowed to retrieve those weapons was also approved yesterday.
Both bills have already passed the state Assembly.
