Funeral Services are pending for 96-year-old former Governor Patrick Lucey, who died Saturday night in Milwaukee.
Governor Lucey had been involved in a number of real estate development projects in Door County. The most recent, the Stonewood project in the town of Egg Harbor, off Highway 42 just south of Carlsville. That project includes 81 lots.
A Democrat, Lucy was elected governor in 1970 and re-elected in 1974. On a statewide scene, Lucey will be remembered for pushing through the creation of the modern University of Wisconsin System.
He served also as US Ambassador to Mexico during the Carter Administration and ran for Vice-President as an independent on John Anderson’s ticket in 1980.
Governor Lucey and his wife owned a home in Door County for many years.
