The confirmed presence of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer in Door County means your Ash trees are probably going to die. That was the message DNR Forest Health Specialist Linda Williams brought to the crowded Collins Learning Center at Crossroads at Big Creek yesterday. She says there is no way to stop the tree-killing insect from destroying Ash trees on a large scale – probably in five or six years.
The good news is that – if you are willing to pay – there are some specific insecticides that are very effective at saving individual trees.
There are also insecticides that require a certified applicator to inject into the individual tree.
There are local companies – including Dave’s Tree Services – that offer the Ash protection service.
The Emerald Ash Borer has been found near Fish Creek and on the edge of the City of Sturgeon Bay.
