Several hundred students, teachers, community members and others gathered Monday at the Eagle Gym at Southern Door High School to dedicate a new stamp that depicts a Door County cherry orchard.
The stamp, featuring an aerial picture of a cherry orchard in Brussels, is part of the U.S. Postal Service's new Earthscapes series of Forever stamps.
School Superintendent Patricia Vickman says the stamp will highlight Door County and what the people of this county see every day.
State Senator Frank Lasee says the stamp should give tourism a boost.
The stamps are now available nationwide.
Vickman says fourth graders at Southern Door will get their own copy of the stamp and stamp-collector books to use in their study of Wisconsin history.
The district also received a framed picture of the stamp. Vickman says they plan to put it in a prominent location so everyone can enjoy it.
