Domestic Violence Awareness Month started off in style in Sturgeon Bay.
Last night, local men took a stand to raise public awareness of domestic abuse with "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes." Run by local domestic abuse awareness and prevention organization HELP of Door County, the event featured local 'celebrities,' such as Sturgeon Bay Mayor Thad Birmingham, Door County Sheriff Terry Vogel, and CEO of the Door County Community Foundation Bret Bicoy - doing their best to walk in high heels.
Executive Director of HELP of Door County Ursula Timreck says the event is about men standing up against violence towards women.
Timreck says for the first year of the planned-to-be annual event, the turnout was fantastic.

Wearing some of the toughest ladies shoes to walk in, Sturgeon Bay Project Consultant Andrew Olson says domestic violence and abuse issues are something the community should rise up against.
Sporting a two inch heel, Mayor Thad Birmingham was pleased with the spotlight the event put on an important issue in the community.
The walk went from Kentucky to Michigan Street on Third Avenue.
