Counterfeit currency has been showing up at financial institutions in Door County this week.
Since Monday, Security officials at Bay Lake Bank have detected four counterfeit bills including three $20.00 notes and one $10.00 bill. The bills were found at the Bay Lake Bank Ellison Bay branch and at the Main branch in Sturgeon Bay.
The Door County Sheriff's Department says all (3) $20.00 dollar bills appear to be identical, including a matching serial number of JD76175865A. The bills are reported to feel thinner and flimsier than a normal $20.00 as well.
The Sheriff's Department asks that all area merchants be on the look-out for phony-money. Should you suspect that you have received any suspicious currency call immediately.
