Where is your family from? What's their journey? How can you preserve your own story? Helping you find the answer to those questions is the goal of the Northern Door Genealogical Society.
Genealogical Society member Myrma Howard says it's exciting to be around people finding their stories.
Howard says everyone in the group does their own family research, but members help each other out if they can.
The group has also been working to digitize genealogical records from the Lutheran and Catholic churches of Northern Door County. The project has been in the works for several years. It is still a work in progress, but the end goal is to make all of those files available for free online.
After working hard on her genealogical projects, Howard feels very strongly about the importance of keeping track of your own story for generations to come.
If you are just starting out with your family's lineage, members of the Genealogical Society are available to help anyone who is interested in doing work on their family history at the Sister Bay branch of the Door County Library every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 – 4:00 PM.
The entire group meets monthly at Howard's home at 2536 Fieldcrest Lane on the third Tuesday of every month at 9:30 AM. The group has no dues, and new members are always welcome.
