The Door County Highway Department is giving you the opportunity to get rid of hazardous materials from your home this week at events in Sturgeon Bay and Sister Bay.
Door County Emergency Management Director Ann DeMeuse says protecting the environment is always important, but in Door County we have our own unique geographical reasons why it is vital to keep hazardous materials out of landfills.
Among the household wastes you can dispose of are cleaning products and aerosol cans, auto fluids such as old gasoline or oil, brake fluid, and antifreeze, as well as garden products like chemical fertilizers. DeMeuse says another item to get rid of is florescent light bulbs.
The event in Sister Bay is Friday, November 2nd at the Liberty Grove Fire Station (2258 Mill Road) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Sturgeon Bay event on Saturday, November 3 will be from 8:00 – 10:30 am at the Door County Highway Department Office (1001 South Duluth Avenue). DeMeuse says there is generally early demand, so it is best to arrive early to drop goods off.
