Hunters in Wisconsin have a unique way to help children with special needs; they can donate their game's hide to the Lions Club.
Each year Lions Clubs of Door County – and the entire state – collect deer hides. The hides are sold and all the money goes to pay for summer camp attendance for children with special needs.
Member of the Forestville-Maplewood Lions Club and Director on the Board of the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Tom Mueller says the program started about seven years ago with the collection of about 50 hides.
Mueller says the number of hides continues to grow every year. Last year on the state level, over 6000 hides were collected-- 750 more than the previous year.
