With Veteran's Day just over a week away, many in the community are trying to do what they can to honor those who have served our country; among them, the "Peninsula Symphonic Band," who will have a concert a week from today.
The community band has existed since the early 1990s and has been under the direction of Paula Eggert since 2000. Shortly thereafter, the group started performing to honor our veterans with a concert for the holiday.
The band will perform various Sousa marches, "A Salute to Bob Hope," a melody of Broadway tunes, and several movements from Holst's Military Suite in F. But new to this year's concert is collaboration with goodwill ambassadors of the Peninsula Singers, "The New Day Singers."
The Singers will perform the likes of the "Java Jive," and Johnny Mercer's "Dream."
Veterans or the family of veterans will have the opportunity to be recognized during a particular piece of music and local veterans also act as the color guard at the concert.
The free show is Sunday November 11th at 3:00 PM at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (1756 Michigan St, Sturgeon Bay).
