A Sturgeon Bay woman avoided serious injury when the power steering on her car went out and she crashed into a utility pole.
It happened Saturday afternoon on Green Bay Road near Scaturo's.
According to the Sturgeon Bay Police Department, 46-year-old Miriam McCarthy was northbound on Green Bay Road approaching Madison Avenue Saturday around 2:40 p.m. when her power steering failed and she was unable to turn the steering wheel. She braked but could not stop before striking a business sign and the guy wires holding up the power pole, which was snapped by the impact.
McCarthy was taken to the hospital with chest and neck pain. Three others in the car -- two 12-year-old girls and a 6-year-old boy -- were not injured.
