A dairy operation in Kewaunee County is going to get bigger.
Dairy cooperative Agropur announced that it's going to invest more than $100 million in its cheesemaking plant in the Town of Montpelier to increase production and meet growing demand.
The expansion of the plant at 2915 County Highway AB will include a new 120,000 square foot building and will increase milk processing by 250 percent.
Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation executive director Jennifer Brown calls the news an "economic shot in the arm."
Brown says the announcement represents an important commitment to the Kewaunee County economy, to retaining and adding high-paying jobs, and to the dairy industry.
Brown says the expansion will mean the addition of five to 10 jobs. She says starting wages at the plant, including benefits, are about $50,000 a year.
Company officials say the project will also improve the technology of the whey processing facility and the wastewater treatment system. Work is expected to be completed by 2014.
