Plans continue to move ahead for a new community-based residential facility in Algoma.
Algoma City Administrator Tom Reynolds says the CBRF would be located on city land near the medical center off of Fremont Street.
Reynolds says city officials think the senior housing project will be a positive for the community.
Reynolds says the facility would serve as housing for seniors who aren't able live on their own "but don't quite need" a nursing home.
The City Council has already approved the sale of the land to the developer, Mike Check Builders of Cato, Wis. Plans call for two 12,000 square foot buildings. Reynolds says the first of those -- housing 20 to 24 residents and employing seven to eight workers -- could begin going up in January or February.
On Thursday, Council members will discuss spending up to $900 out of the city's general fund to pay for a recently completed site survey.
Reynolds says a developer's agreement has been created and is expected to be signed soon.
"We're being sensitive to the needs of the neighbors and we put some protections as far as aesthetics and access management in the developer's agreement," says Reynolds.
