The City of Algoma's marina will soon be more user-friendly to boaters.
The City Council Thursday approved borrowing $192,000 to dredge the marina. City Administrator Tom Reynolds says Iron Works Construction of Baileys Harbor has been awarded the contract for the project, which is expected to begin in the next week or so.
Reynolds says city crews will also assist with the job, helping haul away the dried sediment. The 56-slip marina was last dredged in 2010.
Thursday's vote was 5-1 with Alderman James Barlow casting the dissenting vote.
Reynolds says two citizens also came to the meeting to object to borrowing the money. One said she would be in favor of a city-supported boat launch but not a marina.
Reynolds says the city secured a five-year loan at a rate of 1.99 percent.
