As of Friday there was only one official candidate in the race for Sturgeon Bay mayor but a contested race remains a possibility.
That's because in addition to Mayor Thad Birmingham -- who's already filed his nomination papers -- two others have taken out papers.
One is 3rd District Alderman John Lodl. City Clerk Stephanie Reinhardt says Lodl stopped by City Hall Friday to pick up papers. John Wade previously took out papers for mayor.
Lodl's aldermanic term expires in April but because of redistricting he's ineligible to run again in District 3. Ed Ireland has filed papers to run for the 3rd District seat.
Reinhardt says the other three aldermen up for election have all turned in signatures: Dan Wiegand in District 1, Joe Stutting in District 5, and Bob Schlicht in District 7.
The deadline to file signatures is Wednesday, January 2 at 5 p.m.
If a primary is needed in the mayoral race it would be held February 19.
