What could have been a three-candidate mayoral contest in Sturgeon Bay has turned into a one-horse race.
Incumbent Thad Birmingham was the only one to file nomination papers by Wednesday's deadline and will be the only candidate to appear on the April 2 ballot.
Third District Alderman John Lodl, who took out nomination papers last week, tells DoorCountyDailyNews.com he had "a lot of discussions and thought" about running for mayor but ultimately decided not to join the race. John Wade also took out papers but did not file.
Barring a successful write-in campaign, there will be no drama in any of the Common Council races either.
All of the incumbents up for election -- the ones in the odd-numbered aldermanic districts -- filed their papers and no challengers stepped forward.
The one wrinkle is in District 3. Because of redistricting Lodl can't run for his current seat because he now resides in District 2. Ed Ireland was the only one to file papers for the District 3 seat.
