Lately, the marina at Chaudoir’s Dock County Park has been accessible only to small boats because there is so much silt build up, thanks to low water levels and wave patterns. Interim Parks Director for Door County, Keith Kasbohm, is looking for some help from the people who use the dock in deciding whether or not to dredge the marina.
The county has applied for various grants to fund a dredging project at the marina, located in the Town of Union, but Kasbohm wonders if the estimated cost of $200,000 would be worth it.

The area in red is what needs to be dredged. Interim Parks Director Keith Kasbohm says the project would be funded by state and federal grants along with funds from the boat launch account, which includes money collected in boat launch fees.
He says the county has received a federal grant and is waiting for the state portion. The project has to be broken down into separate parts, as the federal grant will only pay for dredging the channel and the state grant would cover the rest of the harbor.
Kasbohm welcomes comments from the local fishing community. He can be reached at (920) 746-7131 or at kkasbohm@co.door.wi.us. The dredging project will also be discussed at the Airport & Parks Committee meeting Wednesday, January 9 at 8:00 a.m. at the Door County Cherryland Airport, room 126. The public is welcome to attend.
