Free Throw Showdown In Sturgeon Bay

Future basketball stars showed off their free throw shooting skills Saturday morning during the Council #2478 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest at St. John Bosco Catholic School in Sturgeon Bay.

Emily Tess, 11, lines up to shoot at the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest Saturday in Sturgeon Bay.

19 boys and 7 girls, ages 10-14, competed for the first place trophy in each age division.  Participants each shot three sets of five free throws.  These first place winners qualified to compete at the district level:

Adison Benzinger, 10
Fletcher Hubbard, 11
Tanner DeGrave, 12
Rex Meilke, 13
Ben Krohn, 14

Hailey DeGrave, 10
Gracee Abeyta, 11
Sophia Patton, 12
Rebecca Osborne, 14

Youth Activities Chairman, Steve Johnson, says second and third place finishers receive a medal and everyone gets a patch and participation certificate.  The most important thing, Johnson says, is that the kids come, participate and have fun.

The district competition will be held at St. Mary's Parish in Algoma on January 27.

10-year-old Abram Abeyta eyes up his shot Saturday morning at St. John Bosco Catholic School.
