A large home on Lakeshore Drive just north of Kewaunee is considered a total loss after a Sunday night fire.
Kewaunee Fire Chief Greg Hlinak says the blaze at N4702 Lakeshore Drive in the Town of Pierce is estimated to have caused more than a million dollars worth of damage.

The home is owned by Lee and Suzanne Luft. Hlinak says they were using a wood-burner in the basement when they had a feeling something wasn't right and called authorities.
"They told me that they could sense something was wrong," says Hlinak. "The pipes were hot and they could hear a crackling sound up in the attic."
Hlinak says by the time firefighters arrived the attic was on fire and the fire was spreading quickly.
The chief says his crews got help from fire departments in Southern Door, Algoma, Carlton, Tisch Mills, and Two Creeks. He says a total of about 60 firefighters battled the blaze in below-zero wind chills, which caused valves to freeze and equipment to malfunction.
No one was injured. Hlinak says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
