The American Red Cross will be in Sturgeon Bay Monday and Tuesday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. January is National Blood Donor Month, and Bobbi Snethen with the Red Cross says it's also one of the more challenging times of the year to collect blood donations thanks to the possibility of inclement weather and seasonal illnesses, like the flu.
The Red Cross is always looking for more donors and encourages people of all blood types to donate. Snethen says right now there is an urgent need for blood types O- and B- but they will certainly take donations of all types.
For the Badger-Hawkeye Blood Service Region, which includes Door and Kewaunee Counties, Snethen says there is a demand of about 600 pints of blood per day.
You will have your chance to donate at the blood drive on Monday, January 28, from 12-6 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 29, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Snethen recommends donors eat foods high in iron, drink plenty of water and get a good night's sleep before donating.
