The executive director of the Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation says a Regional Economic Strategy Team has been created to proactively respond to the closure of the Kewaunee Power Station.
Jennifer Brown says the group will be studying not only the immediate economic impact of the nuclear plant's closure but the long-term ramifications as well.
The strategy team is led by KCEDC and UW-Extension with representatives from Dominion, local municipalities, neighboring economic development and planning organizations, WEDC, Bay Area Workforce Development Board and New North.
Brown says the team will meet Monday, February 11 to discuss opportunities for retaining talent in the local and regional workforce and address the long-term community impacts of the plant closure and specific opportunities for funding economic development planning.
Dominion announced in October that it would be shutting down the plant in the second quarter of 2013 because of decreasing energy costs and the inability to find a buyer for the facility.
