Consulting firm Vanderwalle and Associates is targeting five parcels to redevelop in Sister Bay. Village administrator Bob Kufrin says owners of those parcels are working with the firm on forming a vision for their respective properties, but the community will also provide input.
On Thursday the village Plan Commission was scheduled to discuss establishing a blight decree area for the redevelopment project, but the meeting was postponed due to the weather. Declaring the area “blighted” would allow open up grant opportunities.
Although it may not seem downtown Sister Bay is “blighted”, Kufrin says the stereotypical “slum” is only one example of blight and in general it’s a term for substandard or failed public infrastructure.
The blight decree will be discussed for the first time at the Plan Commission meeting on March 7. The next step would be to hold a public hearing on the matter.
