The closure of the Bayview Bridge in Sturgeon Bay is not too far off.
Mark Kantola of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation tells DoorCountyDailyNews.com the bridge closure will likely start the first full week of March, although he says a firm date hasn't been set.
We should learn more at Tuesday night's Sturgeon Bay City Council meeting. That's when WisDOT Northeast Region communications manager Kim Rudat is scheduled to give an update on the $4.8 million project, which will entail closing the bridge to traffic for several months.
The bridge's closure means the approximately 12,700 vehicles a day that use the span will instead have to go through downtown Sturgeon Bay and cross the bay at either Michigan Street or Oregon Street.
The last major repairs to the 35-year-old bridge were done in 2004. Crews have been conducting electrical work on the bridge since November.
