Door County Cross Country Ski Report

Fluctuating temperatures and variations in precipitation including snow, rain, sleet and back to snow again have challenged the groomers to keep the ski areas open. Despite these challenges however all cross country ski areas are open in the county. Temperatures are forecast to stay below freezing through the weekend so conditions are stabilizing.

Potawatomi State Park
Conditions: Good condition for classic but skate trails are soft and need to be groomed. There is adequate coverage from the recent snowfall but volunteer groomers haven’t had a chance to groom yet. We anticipate that the skate conditions with be good for Saturday and Sunday after the groomers get out tonight or early tomorrow. (2/15/13 Park Office)

Whitefish Dunes StatePark
Conditions: Trail Conditions - good to very good expected for the weekend. With 5 + inches on the ground and more falling and the temperatures above freezing, I intend to begin grooming first thing Friday morning. (2/14/13 Rich Dirks)

Crossroads at Big Creek
Conditions: good. All trails rolled and tracked on Friday afternoon and should set up nicely over night. Skiing should be good for Saturday and Sunday. (2/15/13 Jim Maki)

Peninsula State Park
Conditions are good to very good. All trails were groomed Thursday night and should set up nicely by Friday. Trails should be good to very good with 4 – 5 inches of new snow and a rock hard base. (2/14/13 Greg Sunstrom).

Newport State Park
Four inches of new snow has fallen. All trails are open for skiing and snowshoeing, but they have not been recently groomed. (2/15/13 Casey St Henry)
