The Door County Board Tuesday gave unanimous approval to confirm Erik Aleson as the county's new parks & airport director.
Aleson says he's excited about the opportunity and calls the job a "dream position."
Erik Aleson is no stranger to Door County or its parks. The current assistant parks administrator in Marinette County says his grandparents have a cottage on Lake Michigan not far from the Coast Guard station in Sturgeon Bay and has spent summers and holidays in Door County.
Aleson says he's visited many of the county parks, with Cave Point among his favorites.

He says he also knew former Door County Parks Director George Pinney and got to spend time with him when Pinney led a Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association-sponsored tour in Door County in 2009.
Aleson says leaving the "north woods" atmosphere of Marinette County will be an adjustment for him and his family but he's excited to make the move across the bay.
"This is certainly a good opportunity for me to kind of take the next step and really work with a beautiful park system not only well known throughout the state of Wisconsin but really the Midwest," says Aleson.
Aleson says he was able to learn a bit about what the department is working on and what it has planned for the future by attending the February 20 meeting of the Door County Airport & Parks Committee. He also attended Tuesday's County Board meeting.
His first day on the job will be March 18.
