The City of Sturgeon Bay allows hunting within the city limits, but only if hunters obtain the proper permit. The ordinance that allows property owners to apply for the permit is likely to change within the next two months.
The City of Sturgeon Bay issued six permits to hunters for the 2012 hunting seasons.
Community Protection & Services Committee Chair Stewart Fett says the permit applies to public land as well, like the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve.
In order to officially change the language to include the full hunting season, Fett says the new ordinance will have to be read in front of the City Council three times. At those times any support or opposition can be voiced. Fett doesn’t predict any opposition and says the ordinance will most likely be changed by the end of April.
