The old saying suggests age is nothing but a number. Pine Crest Village resident Gertrude Gehring proves this to anyone who gets the chance to talk with her.
Gertrude celebrated 101 years with friends and family Friday at Pine Crest Village, during their weekly "Happy Hour." Champagne and smoked salmon were brought in by her youngest son, Chuck Dull, to help commemorate such a monumental birthday.

Gehring prides herself on her two sons, Chuck and Roger, whom she raised as a single mother for 21 years…
She spent time working at Concordia College in River Forest, IN as the Residence Director. She has lived in many places throughout her lifetime but most recently New Haven, IN, Fort Wayne, IN and Chicago, IL. Always optimistic, Gehring, who goes by Trudi, attributes family, love and happiness as her secret to living such a long and full life…
Chuck and his wife Joanne celebrated the day with Trudi at Pine Crest Village and provided an opportunity for her to talk with her oldest son Roger over video chat earlier in the day. Dull shared the plan for the rest of their family to come visit her throughout the year, including five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
