The Village of Sister Bay Planning Commission is working to allow a local quarry to continue operating while respecting the wishes of the residents who live near the site.
In December, the commission asked for public input on a proposal from David Small.
Small is seeking a conditional use permit from the village to expand his operation. As part of the proposal, the quarry would limit blasting, crushing and continue to operate for 8-12 years. Village Administrator Bob Kufrin says the public didn’t want to settle for a shutdown date so far in the future.
On Thursday the commission asked Kufrin to generate a list of conditions to present to the residents and to the quarry that would address the complaints and lead to an acceptable compromise for both entities.
