The City of Sturgeon Bay Finance/Purchasing & Building Committee will discuss reinstating alderperson compensation at its meeting tonight.
Committee Chair Joe Stutting says two budget cycles ago the city’s budget cuts lowered the salaries of the mayor and the alderpersons by 10%, but the mayor’s salary was reinstated in the past budget cycle.
The alderpersons representing even-numbered districts currently receive a monthly salary of $540 while council members representing odd-numbered districts still receive $600 per month. Stutting says that is because of the staggered two-year term system.
The committee will make its recommendation to the common council after a thorough discussion.
