Sturgeon Bay City Council members Tuesday decided not to give themselves a pay raise.
Aldermen voted 4-2 against a proposal that would have boosted Council members' compensation from $540 a month to the previous level of $600 a month.
Dan Wiegand and Bob Schlicht voted in favor of the proposal. Stewart Fett, John Lodl, Joe Stutting and Rick Wiesner voted against it. Ron Vandertie was absent.
For the record, the boost would not have affected the current terms of any alderpersons. State law prohibits elected officials from being able to vote themselves a pay raise.
