A singer who's performed all over the world will be putting on a show at Luxemburg-Casco High School next month.
Australian-born and Winnipeg-raised Ruth Moody, founding member of the Canadian group The Wailin' Jennys, will take the stage at the high school auditorium Saturday, April 20 for a 7 p.m. show.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit Leo's Club, a high school service club that prides itself on "paying it forward." Club advisor Scott Winkler says the group achieves that goal in a variety of ways.
Winkler, an English teacher at the school, says they're excited to be able to bring in a performer of Moody's caliber.
Winkler says the concert idea is something they'd like to continue and hopefully expand.
"What we're hoping is that if this goes off well that we can do something like it again next year where we would bring in a "name artist" to our school for a concert," says Winkler. "And if we can pull it off a couple of times we'll in the future look into maybe even doing a concert series where we might have two or three concerts in the course of the year."
Winkler says proceeds from the show -- which will feature The Hollands as the opening act -- will also benefit the performing arts community at L-C -- programs like band, choir, and the dramatic arts.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online here. Starting April 8 tickets will also be available to purchase in person at the school box office from 3-6 p.m. or by phone at 920-845-2336 ext. 467 during those same hours.
