For the next five years Door County juvenile offenders will be housed in Brown County. Tuesday the County Board approved a contract with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office to house juveniles. Previously the juveniles were held at the Manitowoc County Juvenile Detention Center (MCJDC), but that facility closed at the beginning of the year.
Door County’s director of Human Services, Joe Krebsbach, says the juveniles have been in Brown County since the MCJDC closed and entering the contract means a lower price tag for Door County.
The county has 130 bed days, or overnights, for this year based on a three-year average. Krebsbach says the contract, which expires in 2018, allows Door County to adjust the number of bed days it leases from Brown County each year based on actual numbers.
