The Algoma City Council will hear proposed Ordinance 769 tonight at its monthly meeting for the first time. City Administrator Tom Reynolds says the ordinance looks to charge property owners $5 to complete forms from law firms and title companies regarding delinquent property and utility payments when they’re looking to clear a title.
The second half of the ordinance would allow the city to charge property owners who don’t comply with the existing city ordinances regarding high grass and sidewalk cleaning after snowfalls.
Reynolds says it’s pretty rare that things go that far, but when they do it’s a burden on the taxpayers. After tonight’s first reading, the Algoma City Council will vote on Ordinance 769 at its next meeting.
