The bird is the word on Washington Island each year during the Door Islands Bird Festival.
Registration is now open to bird enthusiasts for the 7th annual festival. Director Sandy Petersen says you don’t need to be a bird expert to join the adventure.
Each year participants compile a list of birds they spot during the two-day event. The master list contains more than 150 species.
The festival is scheduled for May 31-June 2. Registration fees cover early morning birding at various locations on Washington Island, a water bird watch, two hikes and a banquet complete with a presentation on neo-tropical birds. Funds raised are donated to the Door County Land Trust and Friends of Plum & Pilot Islands. You can find more information and register at islandbirdfest.org.
