Lee Traven Remembered For Generosity, Humility

A Door County man is being remembered for his generosity and humility.

Lee Traven, who was honored by the Door County Community Foundation in 2011 as its Philanthropist of the Year, died Monday.

Door County Community Foundation Executive Director Bret Bicoy says one of Traven's most endearing qualities was his generosity.

Steve Leonard, executive director at The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor says Traven did so much for the Ridges it's hard to quantify, but he says Traven really enjoyed working at the Nature Center.

"The thing that I'll take away from knowing Lee was how simple he looked at life," says Leonard. "The Ridges is a place for people to disappear and love that simplicity and he just loved the simplicity of Door County in the sense of not only being able to walk the Ridges but enjoy all the music festivals, the art festivals and the greater Door County community."

The Casperson Funeral Home says memorial services for Traven are expected to be held in early summer.
