Those who give of their time and talents were recognized Thursday night at Stone Harbor Resort & Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay as the Volunteer Center of Door County held its annual Golden Heart Celebration.
Casey and Nicole Rabach presented the keynote address and introduced their new foundation, the "5th Quarter Foundation," which will focus on youth education, recreation and women's health. Marti Spittell Ziegelbauer returned for her 11th year as Master of Ceremonies, bringing each nominee's contribution to light. Each nominee received a crystal sun catcher created by Tara Niko Rossman and a complimentary dinner.
Award recipients received $500 to donate to a Door County charity of their choice in addition to a custom designed art piece by Chad Luberger of Plum Bottom Pottery. The 2013 award recipients are:

Lifetime of Service: Dave Pape
Three $500 academic scholarships were awarded to high school seniors who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to volunteerism. The 2013 Golden Heart Youth Scholarship winners are:

Ali Sommerfeldt, Sturgeon Bay
Sarah Waldron, Washington Island
Twenty-four honorees were recognized throughout the evening for their incredible volunteer work in the Door County community.
The Volunteer Center hosts the event with support from Ministry Door County Medical Center, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Baylake Bank, Door County Charities and the Green Bay Packers Foundation.
