A Brussels man was arrested after police say he tried to pass two counterfeit $20 bills at a Sturgeon Bay bank.
According to a Sturgeon Bay Police Department blog, officers were called to Baylake Bank on May 15 for a forgery complaint. Police say the man had attempted to pass two counterfeit $20 bills at the drive-thru. The teller became suspicious when the bills didn't feel correct and more flags were raised after they were run through a sorting machine. Upon closer inspection, police and bank staff observed the serial numbers on the two bills were the same.
Police arrested the man on a probation violation and took him to the Door County Jail. They continue to investigate the incident.
