The Detroit Harbor dredge on Washington Island slated for this year is pushing back the county’s plan to carry out routine maintenance on its only road on the island.
Instead of resurfacing County Highway W on Washington Island this year, Door County Highway Committee chair John Neinas says they’ll swap that project with one that is scheduled for 2014.
The county wants to hold off on polishing up County W until the heavy dredging machinery is in and out. According to the county highway department, the three-mile stretch of County O between Maplewood and Sturgeon Bay will cost about $530,000 to resurface.
Neinas says no dates are set yet for construction on County O as a lot depends on when the county can schedule the road grinder.
